Mental health refers to a person's emotional, psychological, and social well-being, encompassing how they think, feel, and behave. It exists on a spectrum, where good mental health involves the ability to cope with life's stresses, learn, and contribute to society. Community support plays a crucial role in fostering this wellbeing. Conversely, poor mental health can make it challenging to manage daily life, potentially affecting thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
When asked to explain what Keeping It Real does on a day-to-day basis, she responded: “It might be quicker to tell you what we don’t do to save time!” They are an incredible community organisation that provides vital community support, covering a large distance from Wythenshawe all the way up to Oldham and everywhere in between. They offer food to those in need, even cooking meals – all in the name of community spirit and wellbeing. “For us, it’s a nice thing to be able to give back to the community you grew up in. Meeting new people and having these great conversations is priceless. There’s a wonderful sense of community in the area if you look hard enough. I think people have their ideas about Moss Side, but it’s a great place where everyone looks out for each other, especially with Auntie Wendy around! This support plays a significant role in enhancing mental health and overall wellbeing in our community.”
